Pain Management and Palliative Care Center

St. Joseph Mercy Oakland’s Supportive Care Program
An older man receives a new diagnosis for advanced cancer and needs to talk through his fears and make sure that he understands his illness. A family works to accept the impending death of a loved one. A mother of three children struggles with the pain of her disease.

SJMO’s Supportive Care Program provides help in all of these cases and more.  Organized as a team of health care professionals that include doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, spiritual counselors, social workers, psychologists, music practitioners, healing touch practitioners, dietitians, and physical therapists, the program brings comfort, relief and understanding to those with distressing symptoms or life-limiting diseases.

SJMO’s Supportive Care Program includes:

  • Pain and symptom management for patients in the hospital.
  • Assisting patients near end of life with understanding and peace for their minds, bodies, and spiritd.
  • No One Dies Alone program. Our mission is to see that no one will have to be alone at death; that death can transpire with dignity and comfort.
  • Healing Touch and music practitioners. They serve our patients by integrating nontraditional therapies with traditional medicine and finding unique ways to provide peace and healing.

Our Pain Management and Palliative Care Center, including SJMO’s Supportive Care Program, currently sees patients only one day a week, but phone hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 248-858-3499. Please call for information or if you have any questions.
