through their personal physician or a cardiologist. Some individuals
may even access care through the SJMO’s Emergency Center. If you

The SJMO Heart Institute offers the following patient-focused features:
3G Progressive patient care units
3G is a 30-bed cardiac progressive care unit that cares for adult and geriatric patients who have been admitted with a cardiac diagnosis requiring telemetry monitoring. 3G specialize in post-cardiac intervention, post-CABG patients from AICU and post-AICD and pacemaker insertions. A team of registered nurse care managers, patient care associates, nurse externs and health unit coordinators using a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach provide care. Most frequent conditions/diagnoses treated:
- Cardiac disorders including post-procedure for patient undergoing cardiac intervention.
- CABG from AICU.
- AICD insertion.
- Post-procedure for patient undergoing pacemaker insertion.
- Arrhythmias.
- CHF
Specialized cardiac rehabilitation
The cardiac rehabilitation program at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland offers specialized education, exercise and counseling for patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. A team of health care professionals including the medical director, registered nurses, exercise physiologists and dietician work to develop a personalized care plan to meet each patient’s needs.
The very best in coronary care
The Coronary Care Unit provides a centralized area for the care of adult patients with acute cardiac disorders. This unit provides the very best in advanced coronary care equipment, technology, supplies and diagnostic aids available for patient treatment. This area of the hospital includes three coronary catheterization laboratories dedicated to coronary intervention and a fourth newly constructed catheterization lab dedicated to peripheral and neural vascular intervention. Most frequent conditions/diagnoses treated:
- Acute myocardial infarction.
- Coronary insufficiency.
- Arrhythmia.
- Congestive heart failure.
