to ask your researcher about your study
It is important for you to be prepared and informed to the best of your
ability before consenting to participate in a research study. The following is
a list of potential questions you should ask your researcher before you agree
to participate. Do not hesitate to ask all or any combination of these questions,
including any others you may have.
- What is the purpose of the study?
- Why is this research being done?
- Has any research of this type been done before?
- Where is the trial site?
- How frequently will I have to visit the site?
- Will I have to be hospitalized during the study?
- What kind of treatments or drugs will I be exposed to during the study?
- Will I be able to take my normal medications during the study?
- Are there any prescriptions or OTC drugs that I must avoid during the study?
- How will the study affect my daily life?
- Should I expect any side effects from the treatment?
- What are my responsibilities during the study?
- Will the researchers coordinate with my doctor during the study?
- Who will be in charge of my care during and after the study?
- How long will the study last?
- Will I be informed of the study’s results?
- Will anyone find out that I’m participating in a clinical trial?
- What are my other treatment options?
