Driver's evaluation provides screening for safety and teaching of adaptive devices for clients who have been driving in the past and wish to resume independent driving. A current license or learners permit is required.
St. Joseph Mercy Oakland’s program includes a clinical assessment of functional strength, visual perceptual skills and reaction time as needed for driving. An Occupational Therapist and a Certified Driving Instructor offer road evaluations and training in adapted midsize automobiles.
This program is often indicated with a physician prescription for:
- Early Dementia
- CVI or stroke
- Elderly Drivers
- Arthritis
- Amputees
