Welcome to the home page for the General Practice Residency Program at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. Thank you for visiting our website and seeking more information about our program. Hopefully you will learn some important things about this exciting program and discover if it is an experience that you will find interesting and challenging.
This program was initiated in 2011, with the acceptance of the first two residents. There are currently three, one-year positions, serving as PGY-1 residents, and you will see how the residents are selected in the information included elsewhere in the site. We will be scheduling two visitation days in the summer and fall, where candidates can visit the hospital and talk with the residents and director. Please email us to let us know of your interest in the program and we will be happy to inform you of those dates.
Everyone at SJMO is committed to the GPR program being an integral part of the hospital. Dentistry has a long history at SJMO and this history has provided the foundation for an outstanding experience for our residents. The dental needs of our community are great, with many patients lacking access to care due to medical, physical or financial barriers. The needs of these patients can be met, while providing an outstanding educational experience for our dental residents.
The hospital has been involved in graduate medical education for almost sixty years. Currently there are ACGME accredited programs in Transitional Year, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Surgery and Cardiac Fellowship. We have AOA accreditation for our Internship program, OB-GYN Residency Program and Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation.
