St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Receives Hospital Safety Score
Of ‘A’ In National Review Of Hospitals
Hospital Safety Score Represents Facility’s Capacity to Keep Patients Safe
Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) has received an “A” grade for excellence in patient safety in The Leapfrog Group’s recent Hospital Safety Score ratings. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. Hospital Safety Scores are assigned to U.S. hospitals based on preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety. Calculated by The Leapfrog Group’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries and medical and medication errors.
“Our commitment to patient safety is our top priority,” said Jack Weiner, SJMO President and CEO. “This distinctive honor reflects the dedication and excellence of our physicians and associates to provide high quality care, a remarkable experience and the highest levels of patient safety. The Hospital Safety Score reflects our unrelenting focus on teamwork and defining and implementing health care processes that make care safer and optimize patient outcomes.”
This is the third consecutive year that SJMO has been recognized by The Leapfrog Group. Last year, SJMO also received an “A” grade for patient safety. In 2011, St. Joe’s earned a “Top Hospital” designation for patient safety and quality of care.
