St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hosts Free Community Seminar
On Back Pain Prevention
Orthopedic Surgeon to Discuss How Patients Can Prevent Their Own Back Pain
Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) will host a free community seminar entitled, “Preventing Your Own Back Pain” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in the hospital’s Franco Communications Center, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac. Orthopedic surgeon Bruce Henderson, MD, will be the speaker.
The seminar is part of the hospital’s free series of orthopedic community seminars. SJMO orthopedic specialists conduct the seminars, speaking on a wide range of orthopedic procedures and joint replacement.

Dr. Henderson earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his internship at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals. Dr. Henderson completed his residencies at Case Western and at the Graduate School of the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine.
A former flight surgeon, Dr. Henderson is the past chair of the Division of Orthopedics at St. Joe’s and past vice chair of the Department of Surgery. He twice chaired the Division of Orthopedic Surgery. A member of the hospital’s Surgical Advisory Committee, Dr. Henderson holds membership in several medical associations and has published in professional journals.
He makes yearly medical mission trips with Christian Medical and Dental Society and is the team leader of the Orthopedic Medical Mission Trip to Mexico. In addition, he is the orthopedic consultant to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland’s Mercy Place free clinic.
The orthopedic seminars are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Free parking is available on the north side of the hospital, adjacent to the Franco Communications Center and Medical Office Building. Registration is required.
