St. Joseph Mercy Oakland joins Star EMS for car seat inspection event
Free Inspection to Look for Expired, Recalled or Damaged Car Seats
Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland’s (SJMO) Trauma Services Department, in partnership with Star EMS, will conduct a car seat safety inspection 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Star EMS facility, 63 Oakland Ave., Pontiac. Star EMS provides emergency and non-emergency ambulance service in Oakland County.
The free child restraint inspection will look for expired, recalled or damaged seats and provide education for guardians. Certified Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) will check to see that the seats are installed properly and that child restraints are positioned to prevent injury.
According to Safe Kids USA (safekids.org), when installed and used correctly, child safety seats and safety belts can prevent injuries and save lives. Child safety seats can reduce fatal injury by up to 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers (age 1-4).
