Maternal Fetal Medicine for High-Risk Obstetrics
Specialized care for special patients
High-risk pregnancies require highly-specialized care. The Maternal Fetal Medicine program at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) is uniquely committed to the lives and well-being of expectant mothers and their babies. With the help of our Neonatology Department, our specialists have made significant contributions toward the survival rates and overall health of babies born prematurely, and have helped many at-risk mothers carry their babies to term.
Our comprehensive, dedicated Maternal Fetal Medicine team works hand in hand with a woman's obstetrician to create seamless care, and a personalized plan for each expectant mother.
Strength in numbers
The Maternal Fetal Medicine ultrasound unit is accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound (AIUM). Our Neonatology Department cares for more than 400 high-risk pregnancies a year. Our obstetrics service delivers more than 2,500 babies annually, including more than 50 sets of multiples.
A continuum of care
It's important that we do everything we can for the expectant family of a high-risk birth. SJMO's Maternal Fetal Medicine Department provides a complete range of services for patients experiencing problems associated with pregnancy. The different types of fetal assessment include:
- Non-Stress Testing
- Fetal Echocardiography
We also offer a full range of inpatient and consultative services for expectant mothers hospitalized in our Antenatal unit with high-risk pregnancies.
