The best technology, the best training
Endoscopy is the family of diagnostic procedures which allow physicians to literally look into the body's interior passageways with a device called an endoscope, an optical tool sometimes connected to a camera or computer monitor, which allows physicians to clearly see the condition and view the health status of veins and arteries, the trachea and esophagus, heart valves and chambers, intestines, colons, and all other major passageways within the human body.

Team support
St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) has the team support you need. While nearly 90 percent of all endoscopy procedures are performed for purposes of treating gastrointestinal disorders, endoscopy is also used for bone marrow biopsies and joint exploration, as well. The SJMO team routinely performs the following:

  • Colonoscopy.
  • Esophagastroduodenoscopy (EGD).
  • Bronchoscopy.
  • Bone marrow biopsy.
  • Epidural nerve blocks.
  • EGD with Bravo capsule replacement.
  • EGD with Plication for for reflux disease.

Endoscopy is a common component in the diagnosis of colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, gallstones, and ulcerative colitis. At SJMO, nearly 80 percent of our endoscopy patients are outpatients, with only 20 percent requiring a hospital stay.

If you require an endoscopic exam, be sure to ask your doctor to recommend SJMO. With decades of endoscopic experience and training, you can't find a more capable team.
