The Clinical Research Office at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland offers the opportunity for many people to take part in a quality medical program that otherwise would not be available to them. Access to new therapies and diagnostics, and increased physician and study coordinator nurse contact, provides a unique complement to the high level of care offered to the patients utilizing St. Joseph Mercy Oakland.
This clinical research facility provides excellent staffing and administrative support for the management and conduct of phase IIb-IV clinical trials. All trials are conducted with strict adherence to the code of federal regulations and good clinical practice and are monitored internally by St. Joseph Mercy Oakland institutional review board and research committee.
St. Joseph Mercy Oakland has strong ties with the Cleveland Clinic and Duke Clinical Research Institute. This affiliation grew out of our strong clinical performance and patient satisfaction. The hospital's commitment to research activities, including investigation of new medications, new indications for medications, and medical devices, has led to the development of cutting-edge technologies for our patients.
St. Joseph Mercy Oakland has been conducting clinical trials, both inpatient and outpatient studies, since 1988. The clinical research office maintains a database of more than 20 physician investigators who encompass a broad spectrum of medical specialties. All staff receive specialized training in the protection of human research subjects, including protected health information, good clinical practice, and handling and shipping of infectious substances. The clinical research office is currently enrolling patients in the area of cardiovascular diseases and endocrinology. In addition, we are also expanding our research areas to include studies for neurology and general surgery.
